The good news is that Mini likes my money. I passed the first step in the process, financial approval. That was no surprise. It’s the next step that worries me.
I live in a townhouse development. Happily my electrical box is in my garage. My problem is that I have no idea how much power I have available. My neighbor informed me that inside units, like mine, have 100 amp service and end units have 150 amp service. However, another neighbor reminded me that I have central air conditioning. This would have added to my worries except that the central air unit was installed by the builder. That means that the original owners might have gotten an upgrade to the electrical service as an option with the air conditioning. I hope so.
My electrical panel says 200 amps maximum. I don’t know if this means the box is rated at 200 amps or that I have 200 amp service. I hope to hear from the company doing the inspection soon and get an answer.
The bad new is that if I don’t have sufficient power, it cannot be upgraded since my development has underground utilities.
I’m not going to let this get to me, though. My next task is to clean out the garage, no small task. But that’s a story for another time.

I was looking around for videos on the Mini E and came across this one by the company that makes the electric drive, AC Propulsion. I think you’ll find it interesting.

It’s going to take me a bit of time to get going with my own story so I thought I’d start out with Jay Leno’s video blog entry about the Mini E. Enjoy.
–Note– Due to a problem with IE7 (on at least my machine) and this video, I’ve decided to just post a link to the video at Leno’s site.
